Public Sector Procurement Team’s Confirm Their Support to the 3rd Sector Procurement Scheme: - 27 April 2007

Sylvia Richardson – Ex Acting Head of Procurement of Lancashire County Council and new Head of Procurement at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council states:

The new government White Paper, Strong and Prosperous Communities, promotes the use of the 3rd Sector to tackle some of the biggest challenges for local government.  Their expertise and enterprise needs to be harnessed and local authorities need to look beyond their own service delivery and consider a wider range of providers. Changes in funding mean that 3rd Sector organisations are having to look for alternatives to grants and to bid for local authority work. Trading can be challenging for 3rd Sector but can also be more sustainable in long term. The funding of a Procurement Officer to work with Voluntary, Community, Faith organisations & social enterprises and to give advice on  looking for tender opportunities, delivering presentations, marketing their business and contract implementation is an important step in helping 3rd Sector organisations rise to these new challenges and demonstrates Lancashire County Council’s commitment to working with the 3rd Sector.”

Anne Burton of East Lancashire e-Partnership Procurement team states:

"East Lancs e-Patnership supports the 3rd Sector Procurement project in Lancashire and is committed to helping it become a success."

James Douglas of Chorley Borough Council states:

“Working with Gareth White from Lancashire County Developments Ltd, Chorley Borough Council is committed to providing procurement opportunities for social enterprises in the North West.”
