This Procurement Portal has specifically been developed to:-
- Provide access to information on public and commercial sector contracts
- Stimulate exchange of ideas
- Develop contracting through consortia
- Share good practice
- Develop established social enterprises and new social enterprise start-ups, through access to new trading opportunities
- Create jobs for people disaffected by long-term unemployment, prioritising work for people who are disabled, on incapacity benefits, over 50, lone parents, from minority ethnic groups, or who have been offenders
SELNET (Social Enterprise Lancashire Network) is a new social enterprise development company for Lancashire launched in 2006 and supported by NWDA, Business Link Lancashire, Lancashire County Developments Ltd, Lancashire County Council, Blackpool Borough Council and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. It represents the interest of the North West and encourages social enterprise business development through provision of business advice, mentoring, networking and better access to procurement opportunities through collaboration and formation of consortia. Social Enterprises, mainly from the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector, trade through a range of social and environmental business. They operate in all parts of the economy, using business solutions to achieve better delivery of public services. The Government believes that social enterprises have a distinct and valuable role to play in helping create a strong, sustainable and socially inclusive economy.

SELNET has secured funding to employ Procurement Officer, Gareth White. He will support the trading activity of social enterprises so they can secure contracts with both the public and commercial sectors. SELNET provides a free procurement information and support service. It will become self-sustaining through various charging methods. More details can be obtained through contacting the Procurement Officer. |
